Hyderabad no more common capital: APERC shifts office to Kurnool
A week before Hyderabad ceases to be the common capital, APERC chairman Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy inaugurated its new office in Kurnool on Thursday.
HYDERABAD: Putting an end to speculations that Hyderabad will remain as common capital for sibling States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh even after June 2, 2024, the AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) shifted its office from Hyderabad to Kurnool.
A week before Hyderabad ceases to be the common capital, APERC chairman Justice CV Nagarjuna Reddy inaugurated its new office in Kurnool on Thursday.
The decision to shift the operations of APERC to Kurnool was taken given the Telangana Government's notice to vacate all buildings occupied by the AP Government in Hyderabad before June 2, when Hyderabad would cease to be the common capital of the two states as per AP Bifurcation Act.
All APERC employees were asked to relocate to Kurnool in the next few days. However, 90 percent of offices belonging to AP were shifted in 2016.
It may be recalled that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had directed authorities to shift APERC from Hyderabad Kurnool, designated as the 'judicial capital city' of the state, almost a year ago.
Jagan had directed the general administration department (GAD) to hand over all buildings to the Telangana Government and move the offices to AP.
Some tribunals and judicial offices have already been shifted to Kurnool, while the remaining offices were moved to Vijayawada and Guntur.
