Indian coast guard rescues nine crew members, fishing boat from Bay of Bengal

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Indian Coast Guard Ship(CGS) Ayush rescued a stranded fishing boat, IFB Ganapathi Perumal, and nine crew members from 240 miles North East of Chennai on Thursday.

CGS Ayush carried the boat and crew to Vishakhapatnam, where it was safely handed over to the Fisheries Department. Ganapathi Perumal, a fishing boat, experienced a machinery breakdown and continued drifting since September 1, 2023, prompting a coordinated search by Coast Guard ships and was located 240 Miles from Chennai.

The MRCC Chennai had requested that the nearby Merchant vessel MV Jag Radha to monitor the boat until the Coast Guard Ship arrives. On September 6, 2023, ICGS Ayush arrived, provided logistical and medical support, and towed the boat to Visakhapatnam.
