Jagan tears into vilification campaign on Land Titling Act, claims he’s a giver, not usurper

HINDUPUR: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy strongly defended the Land Titling Act introduced by his government, calling it a significant reform that would bring clarity and security to land ownership in the state.

Addressing a large crowd at a campaign rally in Hindupur on Saturday, CM Jagan refuted the opposition's allegations of misconduct regarding the Land Titling Act.

CM Jagan criticised opposition parties, particularly the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, for spreading misinformation about the Land Titling Act. He claimed that opposition leaders used tactics to discredit his government by suggesting that the Act led to land seizures. "They are calling people through IVRS, telling them their lands are being seized by Jagan Mohan Reddy," he remarked. "This is the new low to which Chandrababu Naidu has sunk."

"I am someone who gives land not the one who usurps it," he said.

Jagan emphasised that the Land Titling Act's primary objective was to provide farmers with absolute rights to their lands, thereby significantly reducing the potential for land disputes caused by outdated records, lack of subdivision, and incomplete surveys. He underlined that once the ongoing statewide survey was completed, the government would ensure that all land-related disputes were resolved. The Act would guarantee permanent solutions to land issues through title insurance, providing a strong shield of legal protection to landowners.

The state deployed 15,000 surveyors across village and ward secretariats to support this initiative to conduct comprehensive land surveys. By now, the government had surveyed 6,000 of the 17,000 revenue villages in the state, with plans to complete the rest in the near future. Boundary stones were installed, and land records were regularly updated to reflect accurate subdivisions.

Jagan underscored that the government's primary focus was on empowering farmers and landowners. With the Land Titling Act, they were ensuring that every farmer has clear, accurate land records, and offering them protection from future disputes through title insurance. He reiterated that the government was committed to their welfare and prosperity.

The CM assured the voters that his government would continue to support farmers and landowners. He urged them to dismiss false propaganda and remain vigilant against misleading information. "100 years from now, your child's administration will be remembered for surveying every inch of land in Andhra Pradesh, granting full rights to farmers, and providing a permanent solution to land disputes," he said.
