YSR’s Principal Secretary Jannat Hussain, IAS, passes away

HYDERABAD: Retired IAS officer Jannat Hussain, who worked as the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister during YS Rajasekhara Reddy regime, passed away on Friday. The last rites would be performed on Saturday in Hyderabad. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

A 1977 batch IAS officer, Jannat Hussain worked in various capacities as District Collector of a few districts, Secretary and Principal Secretary of various government departments. He became the Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister when YS Rajasekhara Reddy took over the reins of the State.

He retired on December 31, 2010 and was made the Chief Commissioner of Right To Information (RTI) by Chief Minister K Rosaiah. He served in that post until in 2014.

People remember Jannat Hussain as the officer who had handed over the file of ‘free electricity to farmers’ at the swearing-in ceremony of Dr Rajasekhara Reddy, who has signed that file as the first marking his governance, in 2004. Hussain was responsible for formulating the rules and regulations for the ‘free power to farmers’ scheme.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy condoled the passing away of Jannat Hussain. The Chief Minister remembered the services rendered by Jannat Hussain in different capacities in erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Revanth Reddy said: “Hussain has served as Collector for many districts in the undivided AP. During the Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy's regime, the departed bureaucrat was elevated as Principal Secretary to CM and retired as Special Chief Secretary. As CM’s Principal Secretary, the IAS official played a significant role in the implementation of free power supply to agriculture scheme soon after YSR assumed the CM office in 2004.”

Revanth Reddy expressed grief over the demise of Jannat Hussain and conveyed his deep sympathies to the bereaved family members.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed grief over the passing away of Jannath Hussain, retired IAS Officer who served the undivided state of Andhra Pradesh in various capacities.

The Chief Minister conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family members.
