MACHILIPATNAM: Tension prevailed in Machilipatnam after TDP leader and former minister Kollu Ravindra and a few other party leaders were arrested for allegedly attacking the police during a protest in Machilipatnam on Monday.

Ravindra and the TDP cadre were protesting against the YSRCP government over the allocation of a piece of land worth crores of rupees in Machilipatnam. Trouble started when the police stopped Ravindra and others from taking the media around the land to buttress their claims.

According to reports, Kollu Ravindra and Konakalla Ballaiah organised a protest to resent the allotment of a piece of government land worth crores of rupees to the YSRCP for the construction of its office. The TDP leaders were stopped by the police when they tried to show the said land to the media. They also foiled the protest infuriating the TDP leaders to no end. The agitators including Kollu Ravindra allegedly assaulted the police and rained punches at them. In the melee, Reserve Inspector Shankar fell unconscious after receiving a few blows.

Even after this, the TDP leaders did not relent and allegedly continued their attack on the police, prompting their preventive detention. They were immediately whisked away and shifted to Gudur. Even while the preventive detentions were happening, a few woman workers of the TDP also tried to attack the policemen with their footwear.
