Repalle gangrape: 20 years life imprisonment for two men

AMARAVATI: The IV Additional District and Sessions Court in Guntur has sentenced two accused to 20 years imprisonment for gangraping a woman and attacking her husband on the premises of Repalle Railway Station in Andhra Pradesh on May 1, 2022.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) KV Rajendranath Reddy said that the two accused, P Vijaya Krishna and P Nikhil, gangraped the woman, who was a migrant worker from Yerragondapalem in Prakasam district. She was on the way to Avanigadda in Krishna district along with her family when the crime took place, he said.
The DGP said that the police completed their investigation and filed a chargesheet in court within a fortnight after the incident happened. The district police officials had taken steps to penalise the accused within a year of the crime.
“This case is a testimony of strict punishment for those who commit crimes against women. The district police effectively completed the court trial monitoring system,” Rajendranath Reddy said.
The DGP said that out of 122 important cases identified by conviction in just one year, 102 cases were completed and convictions were awarded. Among the 102 cases, the death sentence was given in three cases, followed by 37 life imprisonment and 7 to 20 years of imprisonment in 62 cases, he said.
Rajendranath Reddy also commended the efforts of the police personnel for their efforts in penalising the accused in time.
