HYDERABAD: With the Sun reaching the highest point in the sky, the daylight will last longer due to the earth’s axial tilt on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. Called the Summer Solstice, the day with 13 hours and seven minutes, will be the longest in the whole year of 2023.

In India, the Sun was meant to rise at 5.34 am and set at 6.41 pm on Wednesday. The Sun rose early on Wednesday at Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh and Gudivada in Andhra Pradesh.

Sun Solstice occurs either in the month of June or December. India, UK, Canada, China, Russia and the USA will experience the phenomenon of Summer Solstice at the same time. While the northern hemisphere enjoys the longest sun, the southern hemisphere will have the longest night as we are halfway through the solar cycle.

Summer Solstice day will be the longest but need not be the hottest, as monsoon weather cools down parts of the country in mid-June. In terms of astrology, the phenomenon of the longest day is caused because of the Sun moving into the zodiac sign of Cancer on Wednesday.

Stonehenge in England and Machu Picchu in Peru are monuments that were built to follow the yearly progress of the Sun. Enthusiasts gather at Stonehenge to track the movement of the Sun all through the day. At Sphynx in Egypt, people stand on top of the pyramid to witness the sun exactly positioned between the two great pyramids.
