TDP condmens 'illegal' detention of Ayyanna Patrudu from Vizag Airport

VISAKHAPATNAM: Former minister and TDP senior leader Ch Ayyana Patrudu was detained by the Krishna district police at Visakhapatnam International Airport on Friday.

Ayyana Patrudu returned to Visakhapatnam from Hyderabad on an Air India flight. A group of police personnel from Hanuman Junction police station in Krishna district, who were in mufti, detained and later released him near Yelamanchili after serving 41 A notices (Notice for appearing before a designated police officer).

The police had registered cases against several TDP leaders for making derogatory remarks against the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during a public meeting held at Gannavaram, Krishna district, as part of TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh’s ‘Yuva Galam’ padyatra.

Based on a complaint filed by Machilipatnam MLA Perni Venkataramaiah (Nani), the police had registered cases against Ayyana Patrudu under IPC sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence), 354A1(4), 504, 505(2) and 509.

According to the TDP, the Krishna district police did not even inform the local police in Visakhapatnam and detained Ayyana Patrudu at Visakhapatnam International Airport and later released him.

Reacting to Ayyana Patrudu's arrest, TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu expressed his ire against the YSRCP Government for slapping illegal cases against the TDP leaders for criticising the Government.
