Telugu doctor Ujwala Vemuru falls into gorge in Brisbane, Australia, last rites at native place

While trekking at the Yanbacoochie Falls at the Lamington National Park in the Gold Coast Hinterland Ujwala plunged 20 metres to her death.

AMARAVATI: A Telugu Doctor Ujwala Vemuru (23) hailing from Elukapadu of Unguturu mandal of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh lost her life when she fell into a gorge in Brisbane Australia where her parents settled down a long time back. According to reports reaching here her last rites would be conducted at her native village on Saturday.

Ujwala's parents Vemuru Maithili and Venkateswara Rao migrated to Australia and she completed her MBBS degree from Bond University in Gold Coast, Australia. Ujwala worked in the Royal Brisbane's women's hospital. She always dreamt of becoming a doctor and she worked hard and achieved her goal.

According to Brisbane police, the young doctor and her friends trekked on March 2, 2024. While trekking at the Yanbacoochie Falls at the Lamington National Park in the Gold Coast Hinterland Ujwala plunged 20 metres to her death. The unfortunate incident occurred when she dropped her camera and was trying to retrieve it.

Initially, she fell down the slope and then into the water hole. It took the rescue teams over six hours to retrieve her body. Her friends who were also doctors tried to revive her but in vain.

Family sources said that the remains of Dr Ujwala would be brought to her native village by Saturday evening and her parents would conduct her last rites in the village as per the wishes of her grandparents.
