HYDERABAD: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the murder case of former MP YS Vivekananda Reddy, filed a petition in Telangana High Court seeking cancellation of bail given to the key accused- Yerra Gangi Reddy.
Arguments were presented by two lawyers on behalf of the CBI on Thursday. They informed the court that Gangi Reddy played a crucial role in the conspiracy hatched to kill Vivekananda Reddy. As a charge-sheet was not filed in the case, Gangi Reddy got bail.
Since the investigation reached a crucial stage, the bail granted to Gangi Reddy must be cancelled, the lawyers argued. In his arguments, the lawyer of Gangi Reddy said the Andhra Pradesh High Court did not accept cancellation of bail after considering all facts.
Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter N Sunitha’s lawyer supported the CBI’s argument that the bail to Gangi Reddy should be cancelled. After hearing the arguments, the court posted the matter to April 25.
Meanwhile, the court asked another accused Shaik Dastagiri, who turned approver, to file a counter as YSRCP MP Avinash Reddy’s father YS Bhaskar Reddy and Vivekananda Reddy’s personal assistant Krishna Reddy filed a petition urging that Dastagiri should not be accepted as an approver.
A notice was issued to Dastagiri asking him to file a counter petition. The court then posted the matter to third week of June. In a statement given to Proddatur court on August 30, Dastagiri explained the circumstances that led to the killing of Vivekananda Reddy at his house in Kadapa in March 2019 and later dumping the body in the bathroom on the intervening night of 14 and 15 March 2019.
Meanwhile, the CBI grilled Avinash Reddy for nine hours in connection with the murder case. He left the CBI office around 7 pm on Thursday after attending to the daylong questioning.
