YS Jagan asks officials to explore alternate teaching methods in foundation schools ​

AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked the officials to focus on exploring alternate teaching methods for the children in foundation schools.

At a review meeting held on the Women and Child Welfare Department at his camp office in Tadepalli on Wednesday, the Chief Minister told officials to take steps for improving English pronunciation skills and knowledge of kids in foundation schools. Since the State Government was imparting training to class III students on TOEFL, officials should concentrate on improving the language skills of class II students now itself to improve their Intelligence Quotient (IQ), YS Jagan said.

“There should be a complete hygienic ambience in Anganwadi Centres with proper maintenance of toilets, while the officials concentrate on alternative teaching methods to improve English pronunciation and phonetics among the students of Pre Primary (PP) 1 and PP 2 in foundation schools,” the Chief Minister said. Representatives of Montessori Schools, who were also present at the meeting, discussed their educational system with YS Jagan. He asked the representatives to visit the foundation schools in the State.

YS Jagan virtually launches YSR Sampoorna Poshana-Take Home Ration programme

After launching the programme, the Chief Minister gave away the YSR Sampoorna Poshana-Take Home Ration programme kits to pregnant women and lactating mothers. YS Jagan said that the previous TDP Government had spent only around Rs 450 to Rs.500 crores per annum on providing nutritious food to pregnant women, lactating mothers and children. However, the YSRCP Government was incurring Rs 2,300 crore per annum, the Chief Minister said.

“There should be constant monitoring and quality control tests on the quality of food items, official machinery should pay special attention to eradicate malnutrition and anemia,” YS Jagan said. The officials informed the Chief Minister that 2 kg of Ragi powder, 1 kg of rice flakes, 3 kg of rice, 250 grams each of jaggery, chikki and dry dates, 1 kg of red gram, half litre edible oil, 5 liters of milk and 25 eggs were given every month under YSR Sampoorna Poshana. While 1 kg of Ragi powder, 2 kg of multigrain attaa, 3 kg of rice, 500 grams each of jaggery, chikki and dry dates, 1 kg of red gram, half litre edible oil, 5 liters of milk and 25 eggs were given every month under YSR Sampoorna Poshana Plus to pregnant women and lactating mothers in the State.

YS Jagan also said that family doctors should visit the Anganwadi centres during their visits to villages and assess the health of the inmates and provide medical treatment, if need be. Stating that the State Government had been implementing Amma Vodi, Kalyanamasthu- Shadi Tohfa, Vasathi Deevena and Vidya Deevena aimed at preventing child marriages and improving literacy among girls, YS Jagan said that officials should extensively publicize these programmes in backward areas to create awareness. “We have linked the Kalyanamasthu scheme with the qualification of class 10 for this purpose,” the Chief Minister said.
