YS Sharmila to join Congress on January 4, may become APCC chief
Sharmila would first visit Idupulapaya to place the wedding invite of her son YS Raja Reddy on the mausoleum of her father Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
HYDERABAD: Founder and president of the YSR Telangana Party, YS Sharmila will be joining the Congress on January 4. She was invited to Delhi by AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge to complete the formalities.
Sharmila would first visit Idupulapaya to place the wedding invite of her son YS Raja Reddy on the mausoleum of her father Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
However, the Congress party has yet to decide on whether to make her the president of the party’s State unit or accommodate her in the AICC. Sources indicated that Rahul Gandhi was keen on her taking over the reins of the State unit. An announcement on her joining the Congress may be expected from her today after she visits Idupulapaya.
Earlier speaking to media, Gidugu Rudraraju, Andhra Pradesh Congress president said that anyone who respected the Congress ideology could join the party and welcomed her into the State unit.
After meeting with party leaders in Hyderabad, Sharmila said to have decided to merge YSRTP with the Congress. She would leave for New Delhi along with senior members of her party and an announcement of merger would be announced from New Delhi. She made it clear that she had not decided on the position she would be holding in the Congress after the merger.
