YS Viveka murder: Telangana HC adjourns YS Avinash Reddy bail plea to June 5

HYDERABAD: In yet another adverse turn of events for beleaguered YSRCP MP from Kadapa YS Avinash Reddy, the Telangana High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on his petition seeking anticipatory bail in the YS Vivekananda Reddy murder case, to June 5, 2023. In a significant ruling, the High Court said that the CBI could go on with its investigation in the case, as per the clear guidelines of the Supreme Court.

The High Court, which heard the arguments on Thursday from the counsel of the petitioner and Dr Sunitha, who impleaded in the anticipatory bail petition, posted the matter to Friday to hear the argument of the CBI. However, on Friday, the division bench of the High Court headed by Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan expressed its inability to complete the arguments and pass its order on the same day. Citing the summer vacations of the courts starting from May 1, the High Court adjourned the hearing on the petition to June 5, 2023.

Niranjan Reddy, YS Avinash Reddy’s counsel, expressed the apprehension that the CBI could arrest the petitioner and appealed to the High Court to facilitate the hearing in the special vacation court. He also urged the High Court for orders restraining the CBI from taking any extreme action against the petitioner for at least two weeks. But the High Court turned down the request, citing the Supreme Court directions in place in this regard.

The counsel for YS Avinash Reddy also urged the Chief Justice Ujjal Bhuyan to issue directions for the hearing of the petition by the special court for summer vacation. The Chief Justice however declined to oblige stating that decisions could not be taken in haste and advised the petitioner’s advocate to approach the special court for summer vacation for this purpose.

In yet another development, a CBI court in Nampally adjourned the hearing of the YS Vivekananda Reddy case to June 2, 2023, citing the summer vacations from May 1.
