Zookeeper dies in bear attack in Visakhapatnam, Rs 10 lakh compensation announced

VISAKHAPATNAM: In a tragic incident, a zookeeper lost his life after being attacked by a bear at the Indira Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam on Monday.
According to the zoo park curator Nandini Saleria, Banavarapu Nagesh from Gajapatinagar in Vizianagaram district had been working in the zoo for the last two years through the Visakha Welfare Society.
On Monday, he went to the bear enclosure and went missing. When the security guard got suspicious and found the zoo keeper lying unconscious with serious injuries to the head and left hand, she said, and added that the staff immediately rushed Nagesh to King George Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
The curator said that the incident was informed to the higher authorities and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh was announced. The bear named Jihwan was brought from Mizoram, she added.
