10,000 teachers to get promotions in Andhra Pradesh in September

AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh School Education Department will give promotions to as many as 10,000 teachers as school assistants, principals, mandal education officers and district deputy education officers. A schedule was prepared, on Tuesday, to carry out related processes in the first week of September.

The State government had introduced pre-primary education in government schools for the first time in the country. The government had also taken measures for subject-wise teaching by connecting primary school children from class 3 to 5 to high school and completed mapping of schools as well.

Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy asked officials to promote the eligible persons to School Assistants as school assistant teachers were required for teaching subjects in these schools. So far, the school education department has made arrangements to promote 7,000 people as school assistants. The government had also taken steps to appoint headmasters.

The Mandal Education Officer posts were not filled for several decades and the teachers of government schools were objecting that all these posts were related to them and should not be allotted to teachers of Zilla Parishad. There were 666 mandal education officers posts in the State and 421 people were working there.

To resolve this, the Andhra Pradesh government decided to have two MEOs for each mandal amounting to a total of 1,332 posts wherein 666 posts would be allocated to government teachers and the remaining 666 posts allotted to teachers of local bodies (ZP) schools. Eligible headmasters would be given opportunities in these posts through promotions.

There were disputes between government and ZP teachers regarding the 53 Deputy District Educational Officer posts across the State. The Chief Minister issued orders and allowed the creation of 36 more Deputy DEO posts in which eligible persons would be promoted or appointed.
