AMARAVATI: In what could be viewed by parents and students as a welcome move, the Andhra Pradesh government has embarked on a key reform with regard to the conduct of SSC examinations.

As per a state government order, the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, popularly known as 10th class exams, will henceforth be limited to only six test papers in Andhra Pradesh. Prior to the COVID-19 crisis, the Directorate of Government Examinations (DGE) of the state used to hold the examinations for a total of 11 test papers. Post pandemic, the number of test papers was truncated to seven, keeping the ordeal and difficulties of the students whose schooling and education suffered badly due to restrictions.

After further brainstorming, the state government led by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy appears to have formalised the policy to have the exams only for six test papers hereafter. As per this thought process, there will be only one paper for both physical science and biological science.

The government order also stipulates the conduct of the SSC exams on the lines of Central Board of Secundary Education (CBSE), a national level board of education for public and private schools working under the control of the Centre.
