Jagan kickstarts Ramayapatnam Port works, envisions huge employment boost

AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the Rs 3,740 Cr project – Ramayapatnam port – in Nellore on Wednesday. He said that the port would give direct employment to thousands of locals and lakhs of people would benefit indirectly.
At the bhumi pooja he said that the economic activity of the State would increase with the port and the cost of transportation would decrease.
He said that thousands of people will get employment directly and lakhs of people indirectly. Jagan also thanked banks and villages for giving loans for the project and said that 75 percent of the jobs in the port would be given to locals.
He said that apart from the existing six ports in the State, four more ports would soon be built. Rs. 3,740 Cr had been sanctioned for four berths on the port. Six more berths would be added in the future with Rs. 200 Cr for each berth. The initial capacity of the port would be 25,000 MT cargo, which would increase to 50,000 MT with all 10 berths.
Jagan also said that the TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu performed the bhumi pooja of the port without getting permits from concerned departments. He said it was incorrect and was done without land acquisition and Detailed Project Report.
Ministers K Govardhan Reddy, G Amarnath, A Rambabu, MP A Prabhakar Reddy, Rajya Sabha members V Prabhakar Reddy, B Mastan Rao and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
