TIRUPATI: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday issued a stay on the proceedings of a Tirupati court against Tollywood actor Manchu Mohan Babu and his two sons in a case of Election Code violation.

A case was registered against the trio after they staged a dharna on March 22, 2018, pressing for disbursal of funds towards fee reimbursement to their institute. As there was an Election Code of Conduct in force, they were booked under relevant sections for allegedly violating it. The High Court on Monday issued an interim order staying the proceedings by the Tirupati court for eight weeks.

The veteran actor, as part of the trial, has appeared before the Tirupati court, which heard the arguments and adjourned the hearing to September 30. Meanwhile, Mohan Babu filed a petition in the High Court seeking relief from the case. The high court gave interim directions suspending the trial for eight weeks in the Tirupati court.

Mohan Babu and his sons staged a sit-in on the Tirupati-Madanapalle national highway alleging that the then TDP government had not released the fee reimbursement funds to the Sri Vidyaniketan educational institution. As the Election Code was already in force, a case was registered against Mohan Babu, his sons Vishnu, Manoj, AO Tulsi Naidu and PRO Satish of Sri Vidyaniketan Educational Institutions for violation of the code.
