Trained in explosives detection, 35 canines 'graduate' in Guntur

GUNTUR: The eight-month basic training of 35 canines and 52 handlers, which commenced on February 2 2022, ended on Wednesday, facilitating their formal addition to the police force.

The passing out parade of the 20th batch was held at the Canine Training Centre in Mangalagiri (Guntur). They were trained in detection of explosives, tracking and assault categories.

Training was given to 21 Labradors, 10 Belgian Malinois, two Golden Retrievers and two Cocker Spaniels. These 35 canines would go to various districts and commissionerates in the State, ISW, Greyhounds, OCTOPUS and TTD to perform their respective duties.

The Canine temporary training institute started functioning from 2017 at Mangalagiri and, till now, four batches consisting of as many as 124 canines and 175 handlers were trained here.
