HYDERABAD: The government of India announced prestigious awards like Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan to honor individuals for their outstanding contributions in various fields. Megastar Chiranjeevi from the Telugu film industry was honored with the Padma Vibhushan, the highest civilian award this year.

Notably, this award had been previously bestowed upon the legendary actor, the late Akkineni Nageswara Rao, making Chiranjeevi the second recipient from the Telugu cinema.

The Padma Vibhushan has a significant history in the Telugu film industry. The first recipient was Akkineni Nageswara Rao in 2011, who had an illustrious career spanning over 67 years and acted in more than 150 movies. Akkineni Nageswara Rao received various accolades, including the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Kalimamani, Raghupathi Venkaiah Award, and several Filmfare Awards.

Chiranjeevi, the current megastar, has joined the prestigious Padma Vibhushan recipient league. Previously, he had been honored with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards for his remarkable contributions to the film industry. In 2006, Chiranjeevi received the Padma Bhushan for his outstanding services to the film industry.

Throughout his career, Chiranjeevi has earned recognition for his performances in films such as "Indra," "Apadbandhudu," and "Swayam Krishi." His notable achievements include seven Filmfare Awards, Nandi Awards, and the Raghupathi Venkaiah Award in 2016 for his exceptional contributions to Telugu cinema.

Chiranjeevi's legacy extends beyond awards. In 2006, he was honored with a special award at the Filmfare Awards for his legendary acting career, and in 2010, he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Andhra University in 2006 and was the only actor from South India to attend the prestigious Oscar Awards ceremony in 1987.

Chiranjeevi's recognition with the Padma Vibhushan further solidifies his status as an acclaimed actor in the Telugu film industry, following in the footsteps of the legendary Akkineni Nageswara Rao.
