Suresh Krissna, the director of the iconic Rajinikanth starrer "Baasha," spoke about the possibility of remaking the film and his choice for a modern actor who could take on the role.
"Baasha," released in 1995, is considered one of Rajinikanth's biggest blockbusters, and the character of Manikam from the film continues to be one of his most iconic and relatable roles. The film enjoyed an extended theatrical run and is celebrated as a cultural phenomenon.
Suresh Krissna mentioned that Ajith Kumar is one contemporary actor who could come closest to reprising Rajinikanth's role. Krissna emphasized that a modern "superstar image" is essential for a successful remake of "Baasha."
"The original film's intrigue lies in its portrayal of a subdued character who transforms into an anti-hero in the second half. This transformation relies on the actor's image and persona, which adds to the film's impact," he shared.
Interestingly, Suresh Krissna revealed that he and Ajith Kumar were originally planning to work on a film together in 2002 named "Vamana," but the project ultimately got stalled for unspecified reasons.
