HYDERABAD: In a fascinating turn of events, the highly successful "Drishyam" franchise, which garnered immense popularity in multiple South Indian languages, including Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil, is now set to be remade in South Korea. This reversal of the trend showcases the influence and global appeal of Indian cinema, particularly within the South Korean market.

Over the past few years, Tollywood has witnessed the remake of several popular Korean films, such as Samantha's "Oh! Baby" and Regina Cassandra's "Saakini Daakini," with the involvement of Korean producers.

The remarkable success of the "Drishyam" franchise played a significant role in paving the way for this exciting development. The film achieved tremendous box office collections domestically and captivated audiences with its compelling storyline.

Given South Korean viewers' penchant for romantic and thriller genres, it comes as no surprise that the 2013 Malayalam movie "Drishyam" garnered significant attention.

Written and directed by Jeethu Joseph, "Drishyam" inspired remakes in various languages, including Kannada as "Drishya" (2014), Telugu as "Drushyam" (2014), Tamil as "Papanasam" (2015), and Hindi as "Drishyam" (2015).

The announcement of the "Drishyam" franchise being remade in South Korea was made during the Cannes Film Festival, where the Indian film industry proudly showcased its achievements at the India Pavilion.
