HYDERABAD: In the year 2023, Bollywood experienced a remarkable resurgence for several iconic stars, notably Shah Rukh Khan, who made a stellar comeback with two consecutive hits – “Pathaan” and “Jawan.” At the same time, the Deol brothers also scored the biggest hits of the year. Meanwhile, the year 2023 is the year of the strongest comebacks for Bollywood Cinema.

Despite facing controversies, Shah Rukh's “Pathaan” not only lived up to the enormous hype surrounding its release but also emerged as a substantial success at the box office.

Shah Rukh Khan’s “Jawan” graced the screens and stood out as the highest-grossing Bollywood movie of 2023 in India, amassing an impressive Rs 643.87 crore at the box office. Atlee Kumar directed the film and their debut collaboration is a bumper blockbuster.

Veteran star Sunny Deol also made a triumphant return with the blockbuster “Gadar 2,” which raked in Rs 525.45 crore in India. The film's performance boosted the confidence of several distributors that the veteran stars will have their market intact.

Ranbir Kapoor achieved a career milestone with “Animal,” marking the biggest hit of his career with a total collection of Rs 470.58 crore. Salman Khan’s “Tiger 3” performed commendably, earning Rs 284.52 crore, despite receiving mixed reviews. But, Animal's dominance is still visible at the box office, with Salman's film underperforming at the ticket windows.

An unexpected success story unfolded with the controversial film “The Kerala Story,” attracting significant attention and collecting Rs 242.20 crore at the Indian box office. However, the film is still not available on the OTT platforms.

Another biggest hit of the year is Ranveer Singh’s “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani” which collected an amount of Rs 153.60 crore. Akshay Kumar’s “OMG 2” was released amidst multiple controversies but the film tasted a hit with Rs 150.17 crore. Ranbir Kapoor’s “Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar” and Prabhas’ “Adipurush,” both garnering Rs 135.04 crore, won the hearts of audiences.

Undoubtedly, the year 2023 has proven to be a remarkable one for the Bollywood box office.
