Renowned playback singer Bhavatharini Raja, daughter of Ilaiyaraaja, passed away on January 25 in Sri Lanka after a battle with liver cancer.

Renowned playback singer Bhavatharini Raja, daughter of Ilaiyaraaja, passed away on January 25 in Sri Lanka after a battle with liver cancer. The 46-year-old singer sought treatment in Sri Lanka but succumbed to the illness at around 5 pm.Her body is expected to be repatriated to Chennai on January 26 for the final rites.

Bhavatharini initiated her music career with the song in the film "Raasaiya," which quickly became a chartbuster. She went on to establish herself as a prominent figure in the industry, contributing her melodious voice to numerous albums composed by her father and brothers. In 2001, she achieved the National Award for her song in the movie "Bharathi."

Bhavatharini explored music direction, composing for films like "Mitr, My Friend" and contributing to the soundtrack of "Phir Milenge."

Bhavatharini was married to R. Sabariraj, an advertising executive. She pursued her education at Rosary Matric School in Chennai.
