HYDERABAD: Telugu cinema lost yet another iconic director. Kalathapasvi K. Vishwanath, who is known for his works like Shankarabharanam, Swathi Muthyam, Swarnakamalam and Sagara Sangamam, passed away last night in Hyderabad. He was 92.

The doctors stated that age-related issues were the reason for Vishwanath's death. He was taken to Apollo Hospitals last night when he complained breathing problem. After examining him, doctors declared him as dead. It was stated that Vishwanath passed away at 09:45 PM on February 2.

Coincidentally, February 2nd happens to be the release date of Vishwanath's iconic film Shankarabharam. This classical drama was released on February 2nd, 1980. During the first week, there was no audience to watch the film. But slowly, the word of mouth spread well and the film went on to become a blockbuster at the box office.

Not only in Telugu, but Shankarabharanam was a super hit in Tamil as well. It featured JV Somayajulu, Manju Bhargavi, Chandra Mohan and Tulasi in the main roles. Fans opined that the passing away of Vishwanath on the release day of Shankarabharanam is a befitting coincidence. All of his fans and celebrities across Indian cinema mourned the death of Vishwanath.
