Responding to the same, Mani Ratnam said, "Should I answer this question? It seems to be taking the conversation to a different angle." However, the media didn't stop questioning him about Vairamuthu. Finally, Mani Ratnam said, "Vairamuthu is a highly talented individual. Even our former Chief Minister Karunanidhi used to be a huge fan of Vairamuthu's work. However, new talents are coming these days. As we felt that they are suitable for Ponniyin Selvan, we went with them and didn't opt for Vairamuthu."

Meanwhile, Ponniyin Selvan is gearing up for a worldwide release on September 30 in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
