'Premam' director Alphonse Puthren announces exit from film making
Despite his retirement from cinema theaters, Alphonse expressed his desire to remain connected to the world of entertainment
HYDERABAD: "Premam," a timeless classic in the Malayalam film industry, not only garnered critical acclaim but also achieved remarkable commercial success upon its release in 2015. The movie, helmed by director Alphonse Puthren, marked a significant milestone in his career.
Following his work on "Premam," Alphonse Puthren went on to direct two more films. However, he recently made a surprising announcement about his retirement from the film industry via a social media post, only to later retract it.
Alphonse Puthren took to Instagram to share his decision, stating, "I’m stopping my Cinema Theater Career. I have Autism Spectrum Disorder, which I found out yesterday on my own. I don’t want to be a burden to anyone else."
Despite his retirement from cinema theaters, Alphonse expressed his desire to remain connected to the world of entertainment. He indicated his intention to continue creating music, videos, and short films, and possibly contribute to Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms.
Alphonse Puthren's most recent film, "Gold," featuring Nayanthara and Prithviraj Sukumar, failed to captivate the audience as his previous works had. Following this setback, he announced a new project titled "GIFT," starring actors Sandy and Sahana Sarvesh.
Prior to these endeavors, Alphonse had directed the Malayalam film "Neram."
