HYDERABAD: SS Rajamouli's action epic RRR was released in Japan on October 21. The film's cast and crew, including lead heroes Jr NTR and Ram Charan, have extensively promoted RRR in Japan. On top of that, it is already making a lot of noise in western countries and is also one of the top contenders in the Oscars race. All these factors helped RRR in getting big openings in Japan.

According to the reports, RRR collected JPY73 million ($495,000) in the first week of its release, making it the highest first-week collection for an Indian film in Japan. RRR was released in 209 screens and 31 IMAX screens all over Japan.

According to the trade reports, RRR will enter the profit zone within 10 days of its release. It opened at No.10 on the local box-office charts. The other nine films are local Japanese movies. This is indeed a huge achievement for the action epic.

Meanwhile, Superstar Rajinikanth's Muthu remains the highest-grossing Indian film (JPY 400 million) in Japan. It ran for over a year in that country. Baahubali: The Conclusion is in the second position with earnings of JPY 300 million.
