Summer 2023 ended up on a disastrous note for Tollywood

HYDERABAD: The Telugu film industry experienced a disappointing summer this year, as April and May failed to deliver any major hits. In April, only one film managed to find success at the box office, Sai Dharam Teja's Virupaksha. The rest of the notable releases that month, including Ravanasura, Shaakuntalam, and Agent, turned out to be disasters.
Hopes were high for a solid hit in May, but the first week saw the failure of multiple films. Gopichand's Rama Baanam, directed by Sriwaas and featuring Dimple Hayati as the female lead, aimed to bring Gopichand back into the limelight but fell short of expectations. Allari Naresh's Ugram, an action thriller directed by Vijay Kanakamedala, was another anticipated film that failed to make an impact, despite the success of Naandhi, a previous collaboration between Naresh and Vijay.
Several small-budget films, such as Arangretam, Yadgiri and Sons, Bicchagadu 2, Anni Manchi Sakunamule, and Mem Famous, also failed to resonate with audiences.
Interestingly, there were no major releases during the summer season, and filmmakers missed the opportunity to capitalize on the summer holidays. Now, all eyes are on the next big release, Adipurush, in the hope that it will become a blockbuster and revive the box office.
