HYDERABAD: The highly anticipated film "Jailer," directed by Nelson Dilip Kumar and featuring Rajinikanth, has been embroiled in a title controversy. Malayalam director Sakkir Madathil, in a conversation with journalists, revealed that he had registered the title for his project with Dhyan Srinivasan in August 2021. He expressed concern that the identical title would create confusion among the audience.

According to Madathil, the title launch for his film took place in Dubai, with Kamal Haasan also in attendance on June 26, 2023. He further stated that his film began production on November 6, 2021, and concluded on December 15, 2021.

"If they are unwilling to modify the title for their nationwide marketing, they should at least consider renaming the film for its Malayalam release to avoid confusion," said Madathil.

It remains to be seen how the makers of "Jailer" will respond to this unexpected twist. The film stars Tamannaah as the female lead, with Anirudh Ravichander composing the music.
