'Varaha Roopam' from Kantara cannot be played in theatres or OTT
The recent Kannada film Kantara went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2022
The recent Kannada film Kantara went on to become one of the biggest hits of 2022. It collected around Rs. 200 crores at the worldwide box office. Now, the film landed in legal soup as a court in Kerala barred the makers from playing the song 'Varaha Roopam' in theatres and musical platforms.
Recently, the Kerala-based musical band Thaikkudam Bridge filed a complaint against the makers of Kantara for allegedly copying the tune of their song 'Navarasam' in the track 'Varaha Roopam'. After examining the case, the court ordered that the makers cannot play the song either in theatres or on OTT platforms like Youtube, Jio Saavn, Spotify, Prime Music and Wynk Music without the permission of Thaikkudam Bridge.
Announcing the court's order, Thaikkudam Bridge released an official note on social media. "The principal district and the sessions judge, Kozhikode, has injuncted the producer, director, music composer, Amazon, Youtube, Spotify, Wynk Music, Jio Saavn, and others from playing the song Varaha Roopam in the film Kantara without the permission of Thaikkudam Bridge."
"Suit for Injunction has been filed on behalf of Thaikkudam Bridge by Music Attorney, Satish Murthi, Advocate Supreme Court of India," it was further added in the note.
