HYDERABAD: North Zone Task Force Police on Saturday arrested 19 persons who impersonated as transgenders and forcibly collected money from commuters at various traffic junctions in Hyderabad. The police recovered Rs 11,800 and nine mobile phones from them.

Disclosing the details to media, Chandana Deepthi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), North Zone, said that on Friday, the night patrol staff found a few people who were collecting money from commuters at busy traffic junctions, including Paradise X Roads, Sweekar Upkar Junction, near Jubilee Bus Stand and Sangeet X Roads under the limits of Mahankali, Ramgopalpet, Marredpally and Gopalapuram police stations. All of them were taken into custody and were brought to police stations, she said.

The DCP said that after thorough inquiry, they voluntarily confessed their guilt that they were men impersonating as transgenders. Cases were registered against the 19 people under several IPC sections at Mahankali, Ramgopalpet, Marredpally and Gopalapuram police stations respectively.
