ABVP fields Muslim candidate for polls of University of Hyderabad students union president

HYDERABAD: For the first time, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has nominated a Muslim woman as president for the upcoming University of Hyderabad Students' Union elections in 2023.
Shaikh Aayesha, a PhD Chemistry student from Visakhapatnam, will compete against Mohammed Ateeq Ahmed in an SFI-ASA-TSF alliance.
Tarun Kumar, a research scholar from the School of Physics, is running for vice president, and Rajesh Palia, an economics student, is contesting for the post of general secretary for the UoH students union.
The ABVP took to X, formerly Twitter, and said, "The ABVP Panel for the University of Hyderabad Union Elections 2023 is all set to restore the dignity of students at the University of Hyderabad. The student community of the University of Hyderabad requires a student-centric right to union, for which the ABVP-SLVD is the only credible option, ensuring an accountable, responsive, and transparent UoHSU."
