After Panjagutta, more police officers to be transferred in Greater Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The sensational decision of 85 personnel, from home guards to inspector of the Panjagutta police station, being transferred on Wednesday, is just the tip of the iceberg.

More such orders are on the anvil across the Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates where police officers have been accused of corruption. The Revanth Reddy Government is keen on a cleanup drive and stage is set for mass transfers across the tri-commissionerates. The Government has deployed the Special Branch, the intelligence unit of the Telangana police, to investigate the allegations of corruption.

Apart from the Panjagutta police station, over 52 inspectors were transferred in the city in the last one month. The Government is gathering intelligence on land disputes which involve police officers. A list of corrupt officers is being prepared and there is a possibility that there would be massive transfers of key officials in the tri- commissionerates in the near future.

After the Revanth Reddy Government came to power in Telangana, the clean up began with the replacement of the three commissioners in Greater Hyderabad. Recently, the commissioners informed that political recommendations and MLA letters would no longer work for the postings of inspectors and that officers would be given posts only on merit.

Meanwhile, a woman constable Nagamani of the Hyderabad commissionerate protested in front of the Medially police station on Wednesday that SI Shivakumar was getting in civil disputes. While she and husband filed a complaint that land grabbers were forcefully occupying her house, she alleged that SI Shivakumar took bribe and registered a false case her and her husband Varun.

She said that a false case was foisted against them without investigation. "The Rachakonda Commissioner should investigate SI Sivakumar and provide justice," Nagamani said.
