HYDERABAD: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Wednesday complained to the Chief Election Commissioner, ECI, and the Chief Electoral Officer Telangana against former Telangana Governor and BJP’s star campaigner Tamilisai Soundararajan for violating the Model Code of Conduct by distributing replicas of Ayodhya Ram Mandir in Secunderabad.

The BRS in its complaint mentioned that Tamilisai Soundararajan deliberately violated section 188 of IPC and the Model Code of Conduct - by distributing replicas of the Ram Mandir in the MLA colony of Hyderabad while campaigning for BJP candidate from Secunderabad parliamentary constituency G Kishan Reddy in the ongoing parliamentary elections.

The BRS said that Tamilisai Soundararajan knowingly disobeyed the order, to promote the party based on religion and has distributed the replicas of Ram Mandir to the general public. “The said act is against the law in force (MCC) and has left open the void of causing public agitation and communal disharmony. Tamilisai Soundararajan has committed the offense defined in this section,” BRS said.

BRS submitted that the act of distributing religious symbols such as replicas of Ram Mandir for political gains was a blatant violation of the MCC, which prohibited the use of religion for electoral purposes. This action not only undermined the principles of a free and fair election but also sought to leverage religious sentiments to influence voters to favor a particular party and candidate. “I urge the Election Commission to take immediate and strict action against Tamilisai Soundararajan for her gross violation of the MCC,” the complaint said.

BRS sought Immediate debarment of Tamilisai Soundararajan from participating in any future election campaigns and also disqualification of the contesting candidate of BJP candidate Kishan Reddy, from the Secunderabad parliamentary constituency of Telangana State in the ongoing Loksabha elections, for benefitting from the illegal campaign practices of Tamilsai Soundararajan.
