HYDERABAD: After McDonald's and Subway, the king of burgers, 'Burger King,' has decided to remove tomatoes from its menu in several of its Indian outlets.

According to Reuters, the fast food giant has stopped providing tomatoes in its wraps and burgers due to food inflation in the country. "Even tomatoes need a vacation...we are unable to add tomatoes to our food," posters were put up outside certain shops in the country, as per Reuters.

McDonald's in India discontinued serving tomatoes in July due to quality issues caused by shortages in supplies. Following that, even Subway India had stopped serving tomatoes due to rising prices in major cities, according to the reports.

But it appears that Burger King is a little late in making this decision, as tomato prices dropped significantly in recent weeks. Tomatoes are currently being sold for Rs 35 per kg in Hyderabad, while in Andhra Pradesh it is being sold for Rs 25-Rs 30 kg depending on quality.

Tomato retail prices may decline further due to 30 per cent drop in wholesale rates at leading markets.
