Drug Control Administration seizes Iswarya fertility centre in Malakpet running with forged license

The fertility centre was carrying out illegal stocking and selling of medicines without a valid drug license issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana.

HYDERABAD: Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials raided Iswarya Fertility Center at Malakpet which is running a pharmacy with a ‘fake drug license’ and seized huge stocks of medicines worth Rs. 10 lakh.

The managers produced a forged drug license to the officers of DCA during the raid, which was found to be a falsified document.

The Drugs Control Administration Telangana officials, on credible information, raided the fertility center. During the raid, Anil Bodasu, head-administration of Iswarya Fertility Center submitted a license document to Drugs Control Administration officers which is confirmed as ‘fake’, on verification of the DCA Telangana drug license database. The details of the ‘Pharmacist’ are also found to be fake.

The fertility centre was carrying out illegal stocking and selling of medicines without a valid drug license issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana.

During the raid, DCA officials detected a huge stock of medicines in the pharmacy which included sex hormones like Estradiol tablets, Progesterone Capsules, other hormone injections, steroid injections, anti-ulcer drugs, and antibiotics.

DCA officials seized twenty-seven varieties of medicines of total worth Rs 10 lakhs during the raid. Assistant director D. Saritha, drugs inspectors G. Anil, B. Govind Singh, and B. Lakshminarayana were among the officers who carried out the raid.

How to identify a fake license

Drugs Control Administration, Telangana issues drug licenses to pharmacies, and medical shops in the State for stocking and selling of medicines as per the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Drug licenses are issued through the Online Drug Licensing System (ODLS) website of DCA, Telangana.

The public may verify whether a medical shop/pharmacy holds a genuine license issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana, or not through ‘Third Party Verification’. The public may enter the name of the pharmacy or medical shop in the ‘search box’ under ‘third party verification’ of the ODLS website and verify the details of the drug licenses issued by the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana to the medical shop/pharmacy, to check whether the medical shop/pharmacy is authorized to sell medicines or not.

The public may report any complaint through the Drugs Control Administration, Telangana Toll-Free Number 1800-599-6969 functional from 10.30 am to 5.00 pm on all working days.

Drugs Control Administration, Telangana has been constantly on the vigil and alert to detect unlicensed stocking and illegal sale of medicines. Surprise raids are intensified on such premises that are carrying out stocking and sale of drugs without any drug license. Stringent action shall be taken as per the law against violators.

Stocking and sale of medicines without a valid drug license is punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act with imprisonment up to five years.
