Expired food, cockroaches found at Rameshwaram Cafe, Baahubali Kitchen in Madhapur

HYDERABAD: The FSSAI Task Force Team, constituted by the Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety, conducted inspections at two prominent restaurants in Madhapur, Hyderabad, on May 23, 2024, and found several violations.

Rameshwaram Cafe

During Thursday's inspections, the food safety team discovered 100 kg of expired urad dal, valued at Rs. 16,000, at Rameshwaram Cafe. The urad had expired in March 2024. Additionally, the team found 10 kg of expired Nandini Curd and 8 liters of expired milk, totaling Rs. 700 in value. These items were promptly discarded on the spot.

The cafe was also found to have improperly labeled 450 kg of raw rice and 20 kg of white lobia, valued at Rs. 26,000. Furthermore, 300 kg of unlabelled jaggery was seized by the team. The cafe lacked Medical Fitness Certificates for food handlers and failed to properly cover the lids of dustbins.

Baahubali Kitchen

Synthetic Food Colors discovered in the kitchen were immediately discarded. A heavy cockroach infestation was observed in the kitchen, with cockroaches found on food articles inside the storeroom. Pest control records were not found at Baahubali Kitchen in Madhapur.

The kitchen premises were deemed very unhygienic, with water stagnation observed in the cleaning area. Semi-prepared and raw food items were improperly stored inside the refrigerator. Additionally, medical fitness certificates for food handlers were not found, and a true copy of the FSSAI License was not displayed at the premises.
