Four jailed for assault, not paying vendor for cool drinks

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Xth Special Metropolitan Magistrate on Tuesday convicted four accused and awarded 18 days of imprisonment in a petty case for attacking a vendor and for not paying money to him after consuming cool drinks.

According to the SR Nagar Inspector, on July 16, 2023, during the night hours, the four accused identified as Rocky Philips, Mohd. Maaz Khan, Mohd. Arbaz went to a shop in Bapu Nagar in an inebriated state and consumed soft drinks but refused to pay the vendor. When he asked for money, the accused physically assaulted the vendor.

Upon a complaint by the shop vendor, the police registered a case and produced the accused in Hyderabad Xth Special Metropolitan Magistrate at Manoranjan Complex near Gandhi Bhavan in Nampally. The incharge magistrate S Laxman Rao who heard the case awarded 18 days imprisonment to the four accused under section 323 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 70(A) and 70(B) of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CP Act).
