HYDERABAD: The Government has decided to shift all the offices of Hyderabad Metropolitan Authority (HMDA) from three different locations to
Paigah Palace in Begumpet which was vacated two years ago by US Consulate. Before letting the consulate function form the palace, it used be the headquarters of Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA), the previous form of HMDA.
The Metropolitan Commissioner, HMDA, Hyderabad commenced the exercise to shift the offices.
The HMDA was set up for the purpose of planning, co-ordination, supervising, promoting and securing the planned development of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region. It coordinates the development activities of the municipal corporations, municipalities and other local authorities, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply &Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB), the Transmission Corporation of Telangana Limited (TSRANSCO), the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, (TSIC), the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), and other such bodies.
The HMDA is presently operating from three different locations — 1. Head Office from Swarnajayanthi Complex, Ameerpet, 2. PD, ORR, MD HGCL & Director Urban Forestry from HGCL Office, Nanakramguda, and 3. Budha Purnima Project from BP office, Tankound.
As the HMDA is operating from three different locations, the officials are facing difficulty to attend any official meetings that are conducted at Nanakramguda and elsewhere due to heavy traffic, which is consuming a lot of time and at the same time causing difficulties for the common public to visit three different offices.
Further, as requested by the State Government, the Paigah Palace which originally belongs to HMDA was handed over back to HMDA on April 30, 2022 by the U.S. Consulate and presently no operations are being carried out from Paigah palace, Begumpet.
The Metropolitan Commissioner, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, Hyderabad has therefore requested the Government to permit them, so that, all the Departments of HMDA can be kept under one roof by shifting al the offices of HMDA to Paigah Palace, which will increase the productivity of the organisation.
