"I appeal to all my friends to please cooperate with our traffic wardens appointed at pelican signals. They are ensuring the crossing of roads by hapless pedestrians. As u all know , Hyderabad is not so friendly towards pedestrians and there are no proper footpaths . This is an attempt to ensure some facility and safety to those who want to cross the roads . Of late , reports are being received that motorists are not obeying even these traffic wardens ! Come on guys, we can do better !let’s not be in such a hurry," he tweeted.

The pelican signals, also known as pedestrian light-controlled crossings, has been strategically placed at critical road intersections. A pelican signal is a manually-operated system that allows volunteers to give a window of 15-20 seconds for pedestrians to cross the road safely by turning the vehicular signal red in both directions. The initiative aimed to minimise the risk of accidents and improve the overall traffic management system.

In all, Hyderabad, comprising Hyderabad city police, Rachakonda and Cyberabad police, was sanctioned 94 pelican signals, of which the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation had installed 68 signals.
