Hyderabad police honor mother, daughter for bravely confronting armed robbers in Begumpet

HYDERABAD: North Zone DCP Rohini Priyadarshini honored a mother and daughter on Friday for their bravery in confronting and chasing away two robbers who had entered their house in Begumpet, Hyderabad, wearing helmets, masks, and carrying guns.

Two unidentified armed men invaded a house in Begumpet on Thursday. A video capturing the intense altercation between the mother-daughter duo and the robbers quickly went viral on social media, earning them applause from netizens.

According to DCP Rohini Priyadarshini, the accused not only intended to commit robbery but also attempted murder. She mentioned that the accused had previously visited the house in 2022 as workers during Diwali for four days. They had surveyed the area two days prior to the incident and posed as courier boys to gain entry. Once inside, they threatened the women with weapons and knives.

Two robbers arrested in Begumpet

On March 21, 2024, around 1:00 PM, two individuals named Sushil Kumar and Premchandra, hailing from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, attempted to rob a house in Begumpet. They had pre-selected the target house and planned the robbery.

One of them, Sushil, posed as a courier delivery person when contacting the homeowner, Amita Mahnot. When the servant went to collect the supposed delivery, Sushil and Premchandra, wearing masks and carrying guns, forcibly entered the house.

Inside, Premchandra threatened their maid with a knife while Sushil got into a scuffle with Amita's daughter. Amita intervened, disarmed Sushil, and fought off the attackers.

During the altercation, Sushil pulled out a homemade firearm from his bag and attempted to threaten both Amita and her daughter. Amita, who is trained in martial arts, kicked Sushil and took away the firearm from him.

Sushil managed to flee, leaving Premchandra behind, who was captured by vigilant neighbors. The police promptly arrived and apprehended both Premchandra from the house and Sushil in Kazipet.

The accused individuals, Sushil Kumar from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, and Premchandra from Faridpur, Uttar Pradesh, currently residing at M S Maqtha, were brought before the Honourable XI ACMM Court, Secunderabad, for judicial remand.
