HYDERABAD: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has continued 'Orange Alert,' indicating that the Telangana state would experience a severe heatwave over the next two days.

Severe heatwave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam districts of Telangana on Sunday. While heat wave conditions are very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in the districts Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal of Telangana.

Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds(30-40 kmph) are very likely to occur at isolated places in Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal districts of Telangana.

The IMD also predicted that heat wave conditions were very likely to prevail at isolated pockets in the districts Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad of Telangana on Monday. Thunderstorms accompanied with Lightning very likely to occur at isolated places in few districts of Telangana.

Taking to Twitter, ‘Telangana Weatherman’ T Balaji said that Hyderabad recorded 40 degree celsius temperature for the first time in a decade. He also predicted that the onset of south west monsoon would be in Telangana after June 20.

Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APDMA) MD Dr BR Ambedkar said that heat waves would affect the state along with intense heat temperature. Severe heatwave was likely to be experienced in 109 mandals and heatwave in 206 mandals on Sunday. While 73 mandals are expected to experience severe heatwave and heatwave in 227 mandals on Monday.

Of the 109 mandals, 9 are in ASR district, 6 in Anakapalle, 8 in Bapatla, 17 in East Godavari, 12 in Eluru, 9 in Guntur, 18 in Kakinada, 7 in Konaseema, 15 in Krishna, 5 in Manyam ane 3 in West Godavari. On Saturday, 45.1 degree celsius temperature was registered in Kanimeraka of Vizianagaram district, highest in the State, followed by 44.9 degree celsius in Pachipenta of Manyam district, 44.7 degree celsius in Kamavarapukota of Eluru district, 44.5 degree in Kondapuram of Nellore district, 44.3 degree celsius in Errampet of Alluri district.

While 44.1 degree celsius was registered in Chityala, Nandiwada of Krishna district and Tiruvuru of NTR district. Makavaripalem in Anakapalli district registered 44 degree celsius. As many as 188 mandals experienced severe heatwave and 176 mandals experienced heatwave. People are advised to be alert due to the intensity of the sun. On the other hand, laborers working in the fields and cattle-shepherds should not stay under the trees as there is a chance of rains accompanied by gusty winds here and there.
