Hyderabad traffic police aim to reduce road fatalities by 15 pc in 2023

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Additional CP for Traffic G Sudheer Babu on Saturday stressed the need for effective coordination among all major stakeholders to bring down the road fatalities rate to anywhere between 10-15 percent in 2023.

As per the guidelines of the Supreme Court, he held a meeting of the Committees on Road Safety and District Road Safety at the Traffic Conference Hall in Nampally. Representatives of all the major stakeholders including RTA, GHMC, SCB, NHAI and R and B attended the meeting.

While emphasising on the reduction in road fatalities rate this year as compared to last year, Sudheer Babu also mooted the creation of a Whatsapp group in the name of “Road Accident Analysis Group” (RAAG) for scientific evaluation of each and every road collision. He felt that this would enable better coordination between the stakeholding departments.

The departments were also urged to complete pending engineering works related to road safety of motorist/pedestrians as early as possible, especially at 65 newly identified black spots in Hyderabad by engineering innervations after thorough joint inspection. The traffic additional CP asked the RTC officials to identify unused bus stands and bus shelters near Junctions and shift them to suitable places without any delay.

J Pandu Ranga Naik, Joint Commissioner, RTA, Hyderabad, spoke on accidents involving motorcycles and promised to conduct joint special drives with the Hyderabad Traffic Police to help reduce road accidents in the city.

Representing the GHMC, N Ravi Kiran, Zonal Commissioner of Khairtabad, touched upon all the works related to junction cleanup nala works, erection of signage, RUB works, black spots, interrelation, median revising. He asserted that the EEs of the GHMC would visit every fatal accident-prone spot to look for any defects in road geometry and rectify them immediately.
