LUCKNOW: After suffering three consecutive defeats, Sri Lanka finally secured their first points in the 2023 World Cup. In their latest match against the Netherlands, the Lankans clinched a dominant victory with five wickets to spare.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, the Netherlands faced early disappointments as they lost wickets at a rapid pace. Madushanka (4/49) and Rajitha (4/50) put immense pressure on the Dutch batsmen, resulting in six wickets falling for just 91 runs. However, van beek (59) and Sybrand Engelbrecht (70) came to the rescue with a remarkable 130-run partnership, allowing the Netherlands to post a respectable total of 262. Once they were dismissed, the Lankan bowlers swiftly wrapped up the remaining Dutch batsmen.

While chasing the modest target, Sri Lanka encountered some initial setbacks, losing two wickets with just 52 runs on the board. However, Pathum Nissanka (54) and Samarawickrama (91*) stabilized the innings with a 52-run partnership. Following Nissanka's departure, Asalanka (44) and Dhananjaya de Silva (30) provided solid support to Samarawickrama, guiding Sri Lanka to a total of 263/5 in 48.2 overs.

Following this defeat, the Netherlands will face Australia on October 25, while Sri Lanka's next match will be against England on October 26.

Scorecard:

Netherlands: 262/10 (49.4 overs)

Sri Lanka: 263/5 (48.2 overs)
