Interstate Ganja racket using DTDC courier service, busted

HYDERABAD: The Special Operations Team (SOT), Balanagar zone along with the Chandanagar police station team on Friday apprehended two dry ganja peddlers for peddling and transporting the contraband from Orissa to Hyderabad using DTDC courier services and seized 90 kilograms of dry Ganja which has a market value of over Rs 30 lakh from them.

According to the deputy commissioner of police Madhaur zone, one Chandra Shekhar a resident of Odisha in support of DTDC employee transported Ganja in six boxes through DTDC. Other accused Nadari Lingam and Sunnapu Raju who were previously involved in several Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases and went to Jail, began procuring dry ganja from Chandrashekar.

Earlier, Chandrasekhar was transporting ganja to one Sunil of Pune, Maharashtra. They developed a new deceptive strategy using the DTDC courier service to escape the police dragnet. The accused were transporting dry Ganja to Nadari Lingam and Sunnapu Raju, who in turn were selling it to drug addicts in Telangana and Maharashtra.

Based on a tip-off, the police team investigated the case and nabbed the accused persons in a car with the Ganja concealed in courier boxes. However, three others including Chandrasekhar and Sunil are absconding.
