Jilted Zomato delivery boy attacks niece with plant cutter in Puppalguda

HYDERABAD: A 27-year-old Zomato delivery boy, jilted in love, stabbed a 22-year-old woman with a plant cutter with the intent to kill her in Puppalguda area of Hyderabad on Wednesday. The accused is reported to be the maternal uncle of the victim and resorted to the violent attack, for rejecting his love proposal.

According to the Cyberabad police, the man was identified as Kotha Ganesh, a maternal uncle of the victim, Vasavi, an employee with a private company in Gachibowli.

Vasavi suffered severe bleeding injuries on the left side of her neck, left cheek and on hands as she frantically resisted the attack with her bare hands. She was rushed to Continental Hospital in Gacchibowli for treatment by a police patrolling team.

The Cyberabad police on Tuesday evening received a suo motu complaint from Bolishetty Satish, a constable with Narsingi police station. The complainant stated that, while they were patrolling, he received a call from an unknown person via Dial 100, alerting them about an attack on a woman in Puppalguda resulting in bleeding injuries to her.

During their inquiry with the victim upon reaching the spot, she told the police that she was attacked by her maternal uncle as she rejected his love proposal. As per the details provided by her, Kotha Ganesh had already proposed to Vasavi once in the past only to be spurned by her. When she was at her hostel on Tuesday. she received a call from Kotha Ganesh who wanted to meet her for a talk.

As she agreed, he picked Vasavi up from her hostel. Later, he once again proposed to Vasavi but it was summarily rejected as the woman made it clear to him that she did not like him. Enraged, Kotha Ganesh took out a plant cutter from his bag and assaulted her with the intent to kill. He inflicted multiple stab wounds on her in the attack. Kotha Ganesh suspected that Vasavi was preferring another boy which was why she rejected him.

The police detained Kotha Ganesh and took him to Narsingi Police Station even as a case was being registered to take the investigation forward.
