KTR moots rechargeable mobility card for multi-modal transportation, grocery, malls

HYDERABAD: A common card will be introduced for city travel enabling commuters to take metro rail and also city buses. The same card will be extended to MMTS services also, making the city travel literally multi-modal transit.

Disclosing this through a tweet, Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar urged people to suggest a name for the common card.

Arvind Kumar tweeted saying that a meeting was held by Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao and Transport Minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar with officials concerned here on Thursday.

“One card for all needs” is the plan and KTR wanted the officials to have it launched by August second week. Tourism minister V Srinivas Goud also participated in the meeting.

The Special Chief Secretary also disclosed that the common card could be used in future for commute by hired or shared cabs, autorickshaws and the same could be used at shops and retail stores also in a phased manner.

This card could be used in other Indian cities having National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) facility.

Arvind Kumar urged thee people: “Kindly suggest a name for the card. For example: TCard or OneTelangana, etc.”

Asked whether the card would be tied up with any banks for transactions, Arvind Kumar told NewsTAP: “Of course, it's like a wallet / debit card and can be recharged from any bank account/ existing cards of the user.

We will also tie up malls/ grocery stores, etc.

To a query on whether it would be like NCMC, he said: “Yes, on that line, but we will name it state specific.”

Several innovative ideas like Digi-T or T-Digit, TTC (Triumphant Telangana Card), T-Hop and so on are pouring in as a response to his tweet.

Enthusiasts are complimenting the government for this initiative.
