NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant breakthrough by apprehending a suspect from Hyderabad who was linked to the banned Hizb-ut-Tahrir (HuT), an international fundamentalist organization.

The accused, identified as Salman, was an absconding member of the HuT, and his capture marked the 17th arrest in connection with the module. The NIA had previously registered cases against the HuT module on May 24, 2023.

Acting on credible inputs, the NIA carried out searches at two locations in Rajendra Nagar area, leading to Salman's arrest. During the raids, the agency seized several incriminating digital devices, including hard disks, pen drives, and an SD card, along with various documents.

According to NIA investigations, Salman was an active member of the HuT module based in Hyderabad, which was led by Salim, another arrested accused. Alongside Salman, four other individuals associated with the Hyderabad module were also arrested. The group had been working clandestinely to expand their Tanzeem (organisation) with the ultimate goal of establishing a Caliphate based on Shariat.

The NIA's findings reveal that the HuT was actively attempting to recruit impressionable Muslim youth into the organisation, with the intent of building a strong cadre to undermine the Government of India and replace it with Sharia law.
