NIMS Hospital conducts 50 kidney transplants successfully in four months
NIMS Hospital performed 862 kidney transplant procedures since the formation of Telangana state in 2014
HYDERABAD: The government-run NIMS Hospital has achieved a historic milestone by executing 50 successful kidney transplant surgeries in the last four months under the Arogya Sree scheme.
This accomplishment, that's uncommon even in corporate hospitals, was made possible by the government's full support, which gives free treatment worth 15 lakhs each patient.
NIMS Hospital performed 862 kidney transplant procedures since the formation of Telangana state in 2014, averaging 100 operations per year since 2015. The hospital completed 93 kidney transplant procedures in the previous year. The remarkable success of conducting 50 kidney transplant surgeries in just four months demonstrates the NIMS Urology Team's dedication and ability.
The Arogyasree scheme provides free heart, liver, lung, kidney, pancreas, skin, cornea, bone tissue, heart valve, and blood vessel transplant surgeries, making expensive medical treatment available to the poor.
Finance and Health Minister Harish Rao hailed the NIMS doctors who carried out the kidney transplant surgical procedures, calling it a "feat that is rare even in corporate hospitals." He appreciated the Chief Minister KCR's leadership for making expensive medical treatment available to the poor. Telangana now leads the country in organ donations, and the government is pushing more organ donations to improve the quality of life for people waiting to join the Jeevan dhan programme.

Gandhi Hospital has lately invested 35 crores in the establishment of an organ transplant centre, and once operational, the services will be expanded. The government intends to keep advanced medical treatment available to everyone, regardless of their economic status.
